Week 1: December 3 Week 2: December 9/10 Week 3: December 16/17 Week 4: December 23/24 Christmas Eve December 24: 3,5:30 & 9pm  Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, There is a difference between Christmas cards and Christmas letters. Christmas cards send a short greeting wishing you love and blessing for the holidays. Christmas letters are longer narratives that include Christmas wishes, but also updates on what is going on with our lives. Before Facebook, we were not able to update our status multiple times a day with videos and pictures. Christmas letters would be the once a year opportunity to communicate with family, friends, and loved ones what has been going on in our lives. I love reading Christmas letters and enjoy the creative ways people share their stories, poems, pictures, cartoons, or just writing a commentary. Because of the more convenient ways of sharing news and the increasing hecticness of the holidays, it is getting more and more difficult to sit down and write Christmas letters. Please keep at it, it is worth it, both for others and for yourselves. The Bible is God’s Christmas letter to us. It not only reminds us of the nativity story and the birth of Christ, but it also the chain of events leading up to it since the beginning of time. As pastor Harry Wendt says, “(it’s) a narrative that weaves its way through the Old Testament to understand Jesus’ life and teachings” and the second part of the story “relates the biblical narrative and Jesus’ ministry to our lives today.” Like preparing for to write a good Christmas letter, reading scripture gives us a chance to reminisce about the story of Christ’s love for us. It is fun to see the creative  ways it speaks to us, prose, poetry, words of wisdom, encouragement, judgement, past, future. Give thanks for this story and allow it to guide your life. What is going to be in your Christmas letter this year? Think about your letter as I share some of the highlights in the Van Lishout household for 2017, the year of updates and trips: - We took a family trip to Kansas City; LEGOLAND, sea life aquarium, and ate at the T-rex Cafe - We Spent a week off the beaten path camping in Colorado...1 st  time tenting with the girls - We took two family trips to Wisconsin, which included sailing, touring Lambeau field, and family reunion - Likewise, we had visits from Sherry’s parents, sister and family, and friends - We celebrated lots of birthdays and anniversaries...probably not any more than usual but we sure have a lot of pictures of cakes! - We hung out numerous times at the Henry Doorly Zoo - We updated and remodeled kitchen and outdoor landscaping...including a sandbox! - Currently we are updating the flooring in a room in the basement - The girls are growing and involved in 4-H, girl scouts, dance, swimming, library activities - They enjoy hanging out with neighborhood friends...on a daily basis - We spend every Sunday afternoons hanging out with grandma A Christmas reflection, would not be a Christmas reflection, without giving thanks to God for each and everyone of you. Sending you my deepest love and prayers. May you be blessed in every way. May the love of Christ be with you and yours. Merry Christmas!
