Name 1  Name: University: Tutor: Course: Date: Crisis and Disaster Management Kansas City Emergency Operations Center The Kansas City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is a central unit in Kansas where emergency response agencies and government authorities meet to oversee normal catastrophes and emergencies. They are equipped and designed to collect and examine incident, data both large response and recovery operations. They have various strategy redundancies for essential frameworks like communication, web, and electricity that guarantee smooth operations in catastrophe conditions when necessary structures are not accessible. The present Kansas city EOC was shaped on March 1, 2004, and has been operational from that point onwards. The agency is situated in a 7.000 square foot center features an executive center with workstations for functional groups like finance and administration, infrastructure, health, fire, and police. It also features a GIS sitting and assisting agencies like Kansas city power & light, the red cross and others. Moreover, the office has a bounded team management room where managers convene to set objectives and share information , a joint data center that supports staff workplaces, kitchen, classroom, media instructions room and open data advancement. It has an extensive range of technology that facilitates operations including surge sensors, control blackout maps, cameras, and radar. The organization is divided into six council districts headed by a mayor. The particular council members are elected at large within the regions they serve. the is revised according to the population at least every five years. The mayor is the chief elected official of the organization. He possesses all the duties and powers of a  president like the ability to appoint most members of the council. The Use of NIMS Since the deadly terror attack of September 2001, disaster management has completely changed. The Kansas court emergency operations plan has developed a rush county emergency operations plan that has fully adopted the national incident management system (NIMS) as a  primary tool for coordination and response during a disaster. This strategy gives a consistent nationwide approach to deal with local governments, state and federal governments to work  Name 2 efficiently and effectively to recover from, react to, and prepare for economic disasters regardless of the complexity, size or cause. The NIMS includes an essential set of technologies, terminologies, principles, and concepts covering the incident command system; identification and management of resources; training; unified command; multi-agency coordination system; qualification and certification; and the gathering, tracking and reporting disaster information and resources. With these fundamental concepts of the NIMS, the system is able to provide compatibility and interoperability among local, state, and federal capabilities. In addition, NIMS gives standard charge and administration structures utilized during the response. These standard structures empower responders from various wards and trains to cooperate and react to incidents. When respondents are furnished with resources, preparing helps assemble fundamental response readiness and capabilities. Situational awareness requires consistent checking of appropriate sources of data with respect to real and developing incidents. For a compelling national reaction, wards should consistently refine their capacity to survey the circumstance as an episode unfurls and quickly give exact and available data to decision makers. It is fundamental that all reaction accomplices build up a typical working picture and synchronize their reaction operations and assets. Education/Training/Certifications Required for Employment As a crisis and disaster management student, the field trip to the Kansas city emergency operations center is beneficial especially for students who wish to be employed in the department. Education is a major priority when seeking for employment in the unit. In this case, a bachelor of science degree in crisis and disaster management will be crucial. Other certifications related to disaster management are also crucial to any student wishing to join the company as an employee. Due to the stiff completion from students pursuing similar a similar course, the number of accomplishments will be an added advantage and make one stand out.  NIMS related certificate, ICS, an introduction to the incident command system. ICS 100 gives a student an exposure on ICS and provides the foundation for higher learning levels. It is an essential course to undertake since it provides a student with information about organizational structure, features and principles, and history as well as explaining the relationship between ICS and the national incident management system (NIMS). A student also needs to have completed the IS-700 NIMS certificate for them to have a higher chance qualifying to work with the department. IS-700 overviews and introduces NIMS and provides a consistent national outline that enables non-governmental organizations private sector and government to work together during domestic incidents (Hewitt, 2013). A degree is not all that it takes to be employed in the department. Employment is determined by the experiences and knowledge one has concerning crisis and disaster management. Therefore if one is determined to pass an interview, extra efforts are required. Such  Name 3 efforts are the completion of additional courses related to emergency and disaster management like IS-100, IS-700 NIMS, Firefighter I/II and being in possession of an EMT license for one to  be employed as a firefighter. Career Assessment Kansas city Emergency Operations is an organization that is swift regarding crisis and disaster management. it will be of great importance to my career as a crisis and disaster management student to work with the Kansas city EOC department because of the exposure I would get while working with the unit. a goal of interest that I would seek regarding experience is conducting post-incidence assessments of communications infrastructure, and providing emergency repair or developing alternative strategies to facilitate communications. With communications, challenges are likely to be faced with regards to information conveying. While urban centers continue to enjoy advanced discussions, the rural areas prove to be a challenge. Communications have advanced in urban areas, and the possibility of a disaster or a crisis affecting people is almost zero. In case of a dangerous attack or a natural calamity, evacuation, and rescue are easier because of the excellent communication that called for swift action. Infrastructure like rods and hospitals also pose to be a challenge in the rural areas. Working in Texas would be the best choice for me. This is because of I believe I can make a difference to the people of Texas in my line of work as crisis and disaster management officer. Texas is among the few states to be stricken by hurricane Harvey. It has experienced close to 50 inches of rain for over a week. The storm has causes life-threatening floods across Houston. It would be pleasing to help people affected by such hurricanes and offer emergency responses in future when they occur.  Name 4 Works cited Hewitt, Anne M, Danielle M. Mirliss, and Riad M. Twal.
