How it Works The PDFM 5.1 ultrasonic sensor injects highfrequency sound through the pipe wall and intothe flowing liquid. Gas bubbles or solidssuspended in the liquid reflect the ultrasonicsignal back to the sensor. When this soundis reflected from moving bubbles or particlesit is returned to the sensor at an alteredfrequency.This frequency shift is called theDoppler effect.The PDFM 5.1 continuouslymeasures the change from it's transmittedfrequency to the received frequency toaccurately calculate flow.
