International approaches to debriefing in healthcare simulations

   The purpose of this two - phase, sequential mixed methods explana-tory study will be to ex-plore how educators facil-itate debriefing during Simulation - Based Learn-ing with pre - licensure stu-dents across diverse cul-tures. In the first phase, quantitative research questions will address how the facilitator  ’ s ap-proach to debriefing re-lates to the cultural di-mensions of the learners. The faculty will be select-ed from academic and medical simulation sites in East Asia and Pacific Islands: China, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and New Zealand. In the second phase, qualitative interviews and observations will be used to probe significant themes by exploring as-pects of the debriefing approaches with a sub - sample of faculty at the selected sites.
