Seleksi data-data input dilakukan oleh selector line, yang juga merupakan input dari multiplexer tersebut. Blok diagram, tabel kebenaran dan rangkaian dasar sebuah multiplexer ditunjukan pada gambar 2.1 dan 2.2.
